It’s the second week of advent and I’ve pretty much stopped creating more work for myself to do. Now I just have a mountain of wrapping to do and cards to write, but it means I’ve clawed back some time to myself. I’ve blasted through the pile of books I’ve borrowed from the library because I’m SO excited to read the new Brandon Sanderson, who I actually met in person last week!! He was lovely and a real pleasure to listen to for an hour. I’ll even include a rare picture of myself because it was just that awesome.
In order not to spoil anyone’s Christmas gift reveal for this year, I’m going back a couple of years for inspiration for this weeks’ blog. I’d long been obsessing over the idea of creating custom action figure heads using 3D printing that looked like my friends, but cost-wise it wasn’t really feasible. So instead I raided the local charity shops and markets and bought a lot of dolls and customized those instead.
The result was nine superhero action figures, all modeled after a friend. Each had their own outfit, accessories, box and biography typed onto the back of the box. I called this “range” I created, C.H.U.M.S – Collection of Heroes Undermining Malevolent Schemes. My personal favourites are:
Queen of Craft (no, I don’t mean me) – she has glitter grenades and a hot glue gun as her primary weapons. She can make anything out of anything!
The Vandaliser – has a tendency to break things (often unintentionally), but exhibits super strength. His accessories are mostly food made of fimo, in order to refuel after using his power.
The Alchemeister – this one is mostly self-explanatory. It’s based on a friend who is a chemist, with a love of huskies, hence his armoured side-kick. Base metal into gold – not entirely sure how useful it is as a power, but his pants are on the outside, which amused me.
The Irn-Bruserker – unsurprisingly this friend has an irn-bru addiction. Her shield, sword and armour are all made out of an irn-bru can. Her accessories are cats (she also has many, many cats) which help her in battle.
Probably one of my favourite makes of all time.
